Since the mid-twentieth century, the physical world around us has changed dramatically, so why is a grounding system test method adopted nearly 75 years ago still so widely used today? And what are the inherent problems when using an antiquated approach in the modern world? Read more…
A grounding system’s purpose is to use the earth as a current-carrying conductor to dissipate noise currents and conduct dangerous lightning and power fault currents. Earth is a very good electrical conductor due to its mass and its availability to everyone at all locations throughout the world. This global access to the earth allows grounding systems installed on opposite sides of the world to connect. Read more…
Join Josh Kelly, CSP, SMS to learn techniques to avoid collisions and traffic violations. Drivers learn safe, responsible and lawful driving behaviors through a self-assessment risk survey, a series of learning activities and discussions, and videos with real-life driver simulations and hazard recognition scenarios. This course will discuss: • Defensive driving techniques • Safe driving behaviors • Georgia traffic laws and violations • Sharing the road with other drivers and motorcyclists • Alcohol/drug…
Electricity is a serious workplace hazard, exposing employees to electric shock, burns, fires, and explosions. According to NFPA-70E, electrical shocks caused nearly 6000 fatalities from 1992 to 2012. Earn 8 CEU credits as David Rewitzer, PE, CEM exposes common myths about electricity while sharing important lessons on preventing electric shock in the workplace. Additional Speakers: Josh Kelly, Hood Patterson & Dewar, Inc. Ken Box, Schneider-Electric Lesley Varga, Quality Standby Services, LLC Mike Bukovitz, Tech4, LLC Registration Information The…
How often is your standardized approach resulting in an over-designed ground grid? Stop wasting your dough by blindly erring on the side of caution simply because you don’t know what lies beneath. While standardizing a ground grid design seems like it would save time and money, this approach fails to consider a site’s soil composition and resistivity. Soil resistivity is affected by variables such as layer composition, moisture, molecular structure, salt content, other chemicals, etc. Making assumptions based merely on a site’s location, visible soil observations, or soil borings is not enough to determine its apparent resistivity. All variables, especially those affecting life-safety, must be incorporated to allow for site-specific considerations…
GE Grid Solutions is discontinuing several relays from its Multilin SR family of products. These microprocessor-based multi-functional relays were widely used around the turn of the century for industrial protection and management applications in industrial environments, data centers, electrical service entrances, distributed generation (DG) interconnects, motors, transformers, and generators. GE announced, “manufacturing of SR750/760, SR469, SR745 and SR 489 will be discontinued on 1st of January 2020 due to the unavailability of critical components used within the product.” Options for customers with affected relays…
On November 15 & 16 of this year, CEATI will host its 8th Annual Grounding and Lightning Conference in Arlington, VA. This open forum is supported by more than 35 participating utilities and facilitates information exchange and networking. The conference brings together leading subject matter experts from around the world, including HP&D’s own Hilton Mills. Hilton will be presenting Grounding Testing Techniques & Troubleshooting, during which he will discuss the fall of potential (FoP) and computer-based test instrument…
